How To Pick a Wedding Photographer

FILED IN: Wedding

It’s time! He finally put a ring on it, and now the day that you’ve been dreaming about since you were old enough to swipe your mother’s heels and throw a dish towel on your head as a makeshift veil is finally happening. You want every detail to be perfect, and you want to remember every last single second of it.

You’re a sensible person, though, so you realize that between the nerves and all of the wedding frenzy, and trying to concentrate on, you know, actually getting married (safety tip: the words are “I do.” Remember those, they’re important), your memory is going to need a little help.

That’s where your photographer comes in.

You can’t be everywhere on your wedding day – there will be lots of important things happening out of your sight (like the groom getting ready, and looking just a teeny bit nervous), or his mom giving her baby boy one last encouraging pat on the shoulder as a single man, just before he walks down the aisle. Your dad’s going to look uncomfortable in his tux, and he is absolutely going to try to hide his tears from you when he sees you in your wedding dress for the first time, but your wedding photographer is going to be having none of that.

Your photographer won’t just help you remember what color the bridesmaids’ dresses were years down the road, or how perfectly your table linens matched the ribbon in your bouquet–they’ll tie your whole day together for you in photos, writing the first page of your love story for you and your children to look back on.

Because of this, picking the right photographer for you is critical. It can also be one of the most stressful decisions you’ll make, though – how do you know which one to choose? There are so many! How are they different from one another? What do you look for in choosing one? How do you know if you’ve got a good candidate, and when do you start contacting them? What happens when you do find one you like? How does any of this even WORK?

No worries, friend–over the next few days, you’re going to get a crash course in Choosing a Wedding Photographer 101, so grab some popcorn (or some ice cream–there’s still time to work it off, right?), and tune in tomorrow to find out what to look for, what to run away from, and what to expect once you’ve got a winner.

See you soon!
