So I’ve been sitting here for a good bit, now, trying to come up with the words to describe Lindsey and Mateo’s wedding this past weekend. At this point, I can’t do anything but conclude that I just don’t have the words at my disposal to accurately convey how absolutely awesome this entire day was. And I know a lot of adjectives, y’all – so that’s saying something.
The key ingredient to an amazing wedding day is pretty simple:Â amazing people. Family and friends are the absolute heart of a wedding day – they’re what make up the fun and the laughter and the joy that makes the whole thing so magical and memorable. In addition to being flat-out wonderful people themselves, Lindsey and Mateo had a huge contingent of family and friends just as warm and friendly and fun as they are. From the second I arrived for the getting-ready portion of the day, I genuinely felt like family to every single person I interacted with all day. By the end of the night, I felt like I’d made approximately a million new friends and attended one amazing party, during which I just happened to have a camera in my hands.
Weddings like this one always serve to remind me how truly magical marriage can be – so many fun and fantastic things made my job so much fun and so easy throughout the entire day. Lindsey’s grandmother served as her flower girl, the couple’s first dance segued from a classic number into a fun (and impressively executed) Columbian dance. Mateo salsa danced with his mother for their first dance, and grandparents got down on the dance floor like nobody’s business. About an hour before the reception was to end, the entire block lost power – but what’d Lindsey and Mateo and all of their people do? They pulled out glow sticks, grabbed a portable speaker, and formed a conga line. The party was not about to stop just because of some finicky power lines.
THAT, my friends, is what makes for an amazing, memorable wedding day. The absolute best of people in attendance, lots of love, and taking the unexpected and running with it.
Here are a few of my favorite moments of this ridiculously amazing day of theirs. <3
The boys suiting up!
Mateo gives his groomsman a pat on the back as they’re getting ready.
One of the funniest parts of a wedding day is often watching the groomsmen get dressed. Fancy-wear is complicated.
Mateo reads his note from Lindsey
Bridesmaids’ getting-ready shenanigans are no less entertaining than groomsmen’s!
Loved, LOVED these images of Lindsey with her grandmother, who served as her flower girl!
A pretty pregnant bridesmaid takes a break before the big show. Just some light reading. 😉
Lindsey’s mom, getting ready for the big moment.
Mateo takes the last few minutes before heading down the aisle to hang with the ring bearer.
Mateo’s grand entrance.
LOVED Lindsey’s grandmother as flower-girl. <3
This kid was not at all sure what to make of this whole wedding-walking thing.
That first look – it gets me EVERY time. Thanks for a great reaction, Mateo!
The looks these two gave each other throughout the ceremony… <3
Sometimes groomsmen crack up over pretty much nothing during the ceremony and CANNOT STOP LAUGHING.
Ladies and gentlemen…we have a runaway.
Yep, Lindsey – I totally caught you peeking. 😉
Locked it DOWN!
This grooms’ cake was too funny – a Colombian bus, complete with fruit crate on the top and mud under the wheels!
First dance – classic launching into salsa!
We’re going to Colombia!
Selfies in the dark!
No power? No problem. Still got this dancing to music thing HANDLED.
Home-made speaker amplification system. It’s SCIENCE.
One of my absolute favorite moments of the night was when the couple was saying goodbye to Lindsey’s mom. Loved the moment between these two. <3
