I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, because it never becomes less true. There’s nothing more magical in this world than being present as a new life begins.
It is such hard work, bringing a human into the world. Yet we as parents keep doing it. The exhaustion, sickness, discomfort and stress of pregnancy and birth make up some of the most trying moments in our lives. Yet just on the other side of those moments are the absolute best moments we’ll ever know. Once that little bit of magic lands in our arms, everything else just disappears.
As much as I love Birth Photography of first time parents. I equally adore being trusted with the moments in which a family adds a sibling to the mix. It’s a different kind of magic, this. Knowing that your hearts are already so full with one child, I think we always worry, just a little bit, about how adding another will work. And then, when the moment comes, our hearts don’t halve, but double. And then some. I always love witnessing not just how a parent’s love for their children expands in these moments. But also how their love for each other does. I got one of the sweetest photos ever when I was privileged enough to photograph Colin and Christina welcome little Charlotte into the world. Despite bustling nurses, noise-making-monitors, and a stranger-with-a-camera in the room with them, their universe momentarily narrowed down to just them as they soaked in the wonder and love of that moment.
Thanks to this little family for trusting me not just with baby Charlotte’s birth, but also the birth of a new big brother and an expanded family. <3
Check out a few of my favorite moments from their story!
I love watching new babies when they first realize that the voice they’re hearing now is the same one they’ve been hearing for nine months!
The exhaustion is real, y’all.
Big brother is kinda curious – kinda not-so-sure about this whole thing!
